AUSTRALIA DAY!

The weekend that was, was a blast.  Here in Australia, we kick up our heels on the 26th January every year.  It’s a time for us all to give our troubles and worries the slip and focus on the good times.  Whether it’s at the beach, in the outback surrounded by red dirt, in tropical, steamy, Northern Queensland, up in ‘the Territory’, in NSW, or in South Australia where the Murray River runs, or out west in WA.  Regardless of where you are, if you live in this great southern land, you celebrate everything that is good about being Australian.

Whether you’re a citizen or not, it’s time to party!

Here in Warwick, the main street was closed to traffic, the food and drink stalls came out, the live bands played, the stage lights strobed, and friends and strangers shook hands in goodwill.  It was really impressive to have such a big event happening in our main street.

Thousands of people turned out to Great Australian Bites, the 2nd time it has been held. I’m not an Australian yet, that honour is bestowed when I’ve lived here a bit longer, but still I wore an Aussie sports top, so I felt the part.  And somewhere back in the dark ages, a relation of mine was of Sydney decent, so there is a tiny, solitary Australian gene; probably hiding in my baby toe, flying the green and gold.

I think at the end of the day, we all have an interesting genealogy.  But yesterday, it was Australia’s day.

We’ll turn around and do it all again in March, when we wear green for St Patrick’s Day, too.  It’s about celebrating who we are and embracing the cultures.

So, whatever flag you fly, on whatever day you celebrate; enjoy and be proud.  It would be great to know where you all come from, so go visit my Facebook author page www.facebook.com/Addicted2Writing and say hi!  Or leave a message on this site.

Until next time,

Happy reading!
